    Protein Concerns & Ideas {not all raw}

So, of course, the whole protein issue is a big one for moms {and pregnant women too} trying to transition to a more raw or vegan or just healthier lifestyle. I get this questions a lot: "what about protein? how will my kids get enough?" or I hear moms talk about how their need meat a few times a week at least. It's a valid concern and my goal is to help moms and children get more raw foods into their diets without having to totally revamp their entire way of eating and doing things at home.

I also do not want to spend hours writing about the whole protein debate, that can be a later topic of debate in the discussions section of PUREmamas.

I have read countless books and been to numerous seminars on holistic nutrition and/or raw nutrition and also been to numerous seminars led by amazing MDs turned naturopaths and the topic of eggs has come up a lot.

If you poach the eggs or lightly cook {yolks still runny - unless you're pregnant} them, the nature of the protein is more digestible and better for us. When overcooked the eggs molecules become denatured.

Stick to poached eggs or lightly steamed egg whites. Easy on the stomach and very palatable for young children. GREAT for pregnant women, too, it seems like every pregnant woman I know LOVES an CRAVES eggs.

To balance the acidity and add more micro and macronutrients like vitamins, minerals, healthy carbohydrates and omegas, serve the eggs with vegetable crackers and a fruit smoothie.

This will fill up your child and give him/her the healthy energy she needs to grow and play. Of course wait until he/she is over the age of 1. I would say even 1 ½ but it's up to you and your doctor when to introduce eggs.

For some fun laughs, I took a few photos of my son after his nap the same day he had this egg meal. Take a look at his hair. What must he be doing in bed to get it like this? He's one crazy maniac.

    Hope it brightened your day.

Thomas pajamas that his babysitter bought him. He loves them.

not sure what to say about this.

kookie karma we will be selling kale chips in about 2 months. the ones you see on the plate are actually just raw cheese mixed with kale and almonds in the cusinart and then dehydrated at 118 and broken up into crackers.

here's a recipe for the real kale chips: http://puremamas.squarespace.com/blog_all/2009/10/15/kale-chips.html

hope that helps! thanks for the comments.

I LOVE the hair! My toddler gets crazy hair too. Funny timing to read this post because I have cheesy kale chips in the oven right now (on the lowest setting, don't own a dehydrator yet!). Sometimes my kids love kale chips, sometimes they have little interest!

Eggs are about the only animal product we have in the house. It is reassuring to see a positive post about them, as I have mixed feelings. We always get organic.

      Michelle,

yeah, I hear you can make kale chips in the oven. We dehydrate ours and they are honestly, AMAZING!!!!!

      Thanks for the comments!
Oh and yes, eggs are definitely controversial. I like to give people options though, esp those who get overwhelmed at the idea of going raw or vegan. You know?

Passion fruit water is yet another youth serum. As passion fruit is full of vitamin C, vitamin A, fiber, and minerals like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and folate. These help your kidneys, nerves, muscles, and heart rhythm in big ways.
Your body uses Vitamins C to make blood vessels, cartilage, muscles, and collagen, which keeps skin looking young. It also helps your body heal, lowers inflammation, and protects your cells from damage. When you get enough vitamin C, it lowers your chances of getting colds and certain types of cancers. Vit A is great for eyes, immunity, and cells.
Note: did you know Passion Fruit is actually a berry? The biggest berry you’ll find.

If you’re not ready for change, you’re not rea
If you’re not ready for change, you’re not ready for change. And that’s perfectly ok.
Making healthy choices isn’t hard work. You “have time” to choose an apple over a bag of chips. Let’s be real here; you just DON’T WANT TO. And that alone is totally ok!!
Let’s not shame others choices or pressure another to change. If somebody is not happy where they’re at, or they are sick, or in pain, only then will they start examining their current routines and habits. Anger is a great catalysts for change. It often pushes people out if their comfort zones and into action.
I often hear “I don’t have time to be healthy”. But what that really means is I don’t want to change or I’m afraid of change. And I’m not ready. Change is what they’re nervous about - not the amount of time it takes to chop up vegetables.
Be kind to yourself…but be honest.
Notice what you say you desire (weightloss or more energy) and then really examine your habits. Do you make the choices a “thin” person makes? Do you make the choices a rested high energy person needs to make? This might seem obvious but it’s actually not…so often we overlook this gap. We don’t see it and then we get mad at ourselves. Punish ourselves for “failing” over and over again.
Once you start paying attention to your actions and habits and line them up with your goals - that’s when the magic happens.
Yay or nay?
