    Ginger {tea}

    One of my all-time favorite beverages {winter and summer} is ginger tea. I make mine using fresh ginger {either shredded with a fine grater or chopped into small pieces or even juiced} and purified. I add raw honey and that's it. 

    Sometimes, to make it even stronger and spicier {I like mine super duper strong} I add dried ginger root that I keep on hand in my pantry {but you don't have to}. 

    Try it cold on ice or hot on a stormy day. 

    Ginger Tea Recipe

    3 c water
    ½ ginger root chunk {chopped or grated}
    3 Tbls dried ginger root
    honey {to taste}

    Boil water and ginger root. Let sit/brew. STRAIN with fine colander.  Add honey after it cools. Enjoy!

    Ginger Health Benefits

    Ginger root is both a culinary delight and medicinal remedy. Attention Pregnant Women: ginger helps with nausea!!

    One of ginger's most touted health benefits is its ameliorating effects on digestive ailments. It can help digest fatty foods and break down proteins. It is excellent for reducing gas. Many people report that it will also relieve nausea, and can be effective in treating morning sickness as well as motion sickness.

    Ginger can also help reduce inflammation. So it can be used to treat any disease that is caused by inflammations such as arthritis or ulcerative colitis. Some studies show that it can even help inhibit the replication of the herpes simplex virus.

    Being a warming herb, ginger can help knock out a fever. This property also makes it effective in stimulating circulation of the blood. It can also help relax muscles around the blood vessels and is said to help prevent blood clots from forming. The warming effects make it a natural decongestant as well as an antihistamine, making it the perfect remedy for colds.

    Recent studies show that ginger might also have a role in lowering LDL cholesterol because the spice can help reduce the amount of cholesterol that is absorbed. It has also been shown in animal trials to help slow or even prevent cancerous tumor growth.

    Gingers healing properties come from it’s volatile oils, gingerols and shogaols, which are also responsible for it’s pungent taste. The oils cause more digestive enzymes to be produced which helps with the whole digestion process and neutralizes the acids that can cause nausea, cramps and even diarrhea.

    To discover the health benefits of ginger for yourself, simply make a tea by steeping about 5 slices of ginger in hot water. If you prefer it in your food, ginger is excellent in many dishes and is perfect when combined with garlic.

    Easy peasy protein shake using @mikunafoods innova
    Easy peasy protein shake using @mikunafoods innovative protein powder. Its unique in that it’s soy and pea free. It uses “Chocho” which is a complete (plant based) protein with 9g per serving. 
This recipe is quick and healthy. 
1/2-1 whole ripe banana 
1/3 c protein powder
1 1/2 c water 
2 Tbsp raw cashews 
1 Tbsp agave or maple syrup 
Pinch of ginger powder, cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg or pumpkin spice blend 
Add ice if you want it cold. Otherwise blend well and enjoy.

    If you’re not ready for change, you’re not ready for change. And that’s perfectly ok. 
Making healthy choices isn’t hard work. You “have time” to choose an apple over a bag of chips. Let’s be real here; you just DON’T WANT TO.  And that alone is totally ok!!
Let’s not shame others choices or pressure another to change. If somebody is not happy where they’re at, or they are sick, or in pain, only then will they start examining their current routines and habits. Anger is a great catalysts for change. It often pushes people out if their comfort zones and into action. 
I often hear “I don’t have time to be healthy”. But what that really means is I don’t want to change or I’m afraid of change. And I’m not ready. Change is what they’re nervous about - not the amount of time it takes to chop up vegetables. 
Be kind to yourself…but be honest. 
Notice what you say you desire (weightloss or more energy) and then really examine your habits. Do you make the choices a “thin” person makes? Do you make the choices a rested high energy person needs to make? This might seem obvious but it’s actually not…so often we overlook this gap. We don’t see it and then we get mad at ourselves. Punish ourselves for “failing” over and over again. 
Once you start paying attention to your actions and habits and line them up with your goals - that’s when the magic happens.
