Ok, so, after much research {and years of denial} I have concluded that I have candida pretty bad! I think that back in the day when I switched my diet to a raw one, it was REALLY helpful for my skin issues because I had candida and eliminating the dairy and gluten stopped the reactions.
If you don't know much about candida or if you've never heard of it at all, please research it online. I don't have enough room here to explain it all. Basically it's an overgrowth of yeast in the body and 80% of people have it. Some worse than others.
There are MANY signs of candida, but to keep things simple, I will list mine:
- memory loss & confusion
- foggy headed
- small patches of skin rashes
- hoarse voice
- abnormal congestion
- kidney infections
- fungal issues on toenails
GROSS right?

A woman at the health food store advised me that taking Brewer's Yeast would help get rid of acne. Upon her advice I have been taking 2 tablespoons of the powder in my orange juice every morning for the past couple of weeks even though it is the worst tasting stuff on the planet. After reading this I am worried that I am going to cause more harm than good. Is this going to cause an overgrowth of Candida in my body?

Melissa, no. I guess brewers yeast is an "inactive yeast" and can help some sufferers. You should keep doing it if it works. I'm taking a colon cleanse, candida enzymes, probiotics, oregano oil and am contemplating the brewers yeast myself! But like you I feel odd eating any form of yeast. It's a great supplement for vegetarians because it's in food form, if that makes sense. Again, I'm not a doctor but that's what I know and my opinion. Good luck!

Thanks Juli 🙂 Having your skin break out is very frustrating...especially when you work so hard doing all the things you think are good such as eating healthy and exercising. I appreciate your advice and will stick with the Brewer's Yeast...I stick it in the blender with orange juice and it isn't too bad.Although my old school Italian grandfather who is in his 90s keeps telling (or I should say yells, since it seems like he is yelling when he talks lol) me all I need is garlic and olive oil everyday!...I think it is probably good advice since he is so vibrant. Have a good weekend!
