Ellen Heigel :: Didn't Take NO For An Answer

I'd like you to meet Ellen Heigel. She wrote me this sweet letter the other day and I wanted to share it with you because one of my favorite things to hear is a story about how somebody didn't take NO for an answer and explored alternative options to drugs and sugery with SUCCESS.

I had to share her story with you guys not only because she's so adorable but because she hopes and wishes she can help as many people as she can learn to help themselves transform their lives for the better.

    And best of all, she's only 23! And mercury poisoning is a HUGE deal. It comes from fish {diet}, tooth fillings, immunizations. It is detoxable {and must be done because it can be fatal} but you NEED to do it right and carefully. {usually via naturopaths}

    Dear Juli,

I just found your blog 5 days ago and I can't stop reading and re-reading every post! I love your pictures & recipes and I am very interested in adopting a “relaxed” raw-vegan/vegan lifestyle.  I hope you don’t mind I share a little of my story with you – I am so thankful to have found your blog & I LOVE what you are sharing with all of us. I want to help spread the word and I hope my story helps others like your site is helping me now!

"I am 23 years old (married 2 years & living in MD) who battled “sickness” for 5 years. I slowly developed allergies to just about all food: dairy, gluten, beans, peanuts, certain fruits & veggies… my doctor couldn’t help me and told me I was absolutely healthy – just had IBS. I was miserable and felt so alone. At one point I was doing the candida diet as my full-time eating plan. I followed that for about 8 months before I finally went to a natural doctor, who quickly confirmed that I had mercury poisoning along with many other issues! Although it was scary to hear, I was so excited to have some answers to the years of sickness!!

Shortly after that first appointment, I went to a gastroenterologist just to get a better picture of what was going on inside of me.  When I woke up after the procedure, the doctor very coldly told me & my husband that I had two damaged organs (gallbladder & liver) and no epithelial lining on any part of my digestive tract. He then went on to say that the only option for me was to be put on an anti-depressant which will take away the pain. …I was stunned and told him NO WAY! and instead returned with my pictures & diagnosis to my natural doctor.

I am so thankful and blessed to say that after 1 year of working with a natural doctor & dentist (they remove my amalgam fillings which were leaking mercury into my blood stream), the mercury poisoning has left, my organs have healed themselves, my epithelial lining has re-generated, and I have no food allergies, foggy brain, mood/energy swings, or menstrual irregularities anymore!!  I am finally getting back to LIFE!!"

Thanks for posting Ellen's story - and thanks for sharing Ellen - what a wonderful lesson in perseverance!
Juli, would it be possible for you to put me in contact with Ellen? I included my email address, so feel free to pass it along to her.
On another note, I love your blog - your perspective, recipes & photos are great. Every time I travel, I look for Kookie Karma - I found the cherry cashew flavor this summer and loved it - can't wait to find more:-)!

I thought I was weird for trying to avoid pills all the years I was in the Navy. Reading your story makes me retroactively okay with it.

This is so encouraging! In my husband's battle with chronic Lyme disease, we encountered a lot of resistance from doctors who told us medications couldn't possibly be causing the side effects he described, or who told him there was no solution but to take dangerous medications for the rest of his life to manage his pain and schedule an appointment for knee replacement. Thank God we found a nutritionist and personal trainer dedicated to pure, whole foods who helped him detox his way out of a really bad spot.

Our journey is still ongoing, but hearing a story like Ellen's is so encouraging. Natural methods work!

🙋🏼‍♀️ Huge Chris Stapleton fan here. And passion fruit lover. They are in season and growing all over the place here. ⬇️
Passion fruit water is yet another youth serum. As passion fruit is full of vitamin C, vitamin A, fiber, and minerals like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and folate. These help your kidneys, nerves, muscles, and heart rhythm in big ways.
Your body uses Vitamins C to make blood vessels, cartilage, muscles, and collagen, which keeps skin looking young. It also helps your body heal, lowers inflammation, and protects your cells from damage. When you get enough vitamin C, it lowers your chances of getting colds and certain types of cancers. Vit A is great for eyes, immunity, and cells.
Note: did you know Passion Fruit is actually a berry? The biggest berry you’ll find.

If you’re not ready for change, you’re not rea
If you’re not ready for change, you’re not ready for change. And that’s perfectly ok.
Making healthy choices isn’t hard work. You “have time” to choose an apple over a bag of chips. Let’s be real here; you just DON’T WANT TO. And that alone is totally ok!!
Let’s not shame others choices or pressure another to change. If somebody is not happy where they’re at, or they are sick, or in pain, only then will they start examining their current routines and habits. Anger is a great catalysts for change. It often pushes people out if their comfort zones and into action.
I often hear “I don’t have time to be healthy”. But what that really means is I don’t want to change or I’m afraid of change. And I’m not ready. Change is what they’re nervous about - not the amount of time it takes to chop up vegetables.
Be kind to yourself…but be honest.
Notice what you say you desire (weightloss or more energy) and then really examine your habits. Do you make the choices a “thin” person makes? Do you make the choices a rested high energy person needs to make? This might seem obvious but it’s actually not…so often we overlook this gap. We don’t see it and then we get mad at ourselves. Punish ourselves for “failing” over and over again.
Once you start paying attention to your actions and habits and line them up with your goals - that’s when the magic happens.
Yay or nay?
