    Totally Rockin' Tempeh {quick, cheap & easy}

    I know, I know, I just wrote about the dangers of soy. A lot of people didn't know about the damage that too much soy can do, so the feedback I received was wonderful.

    But, some soy, isn't bad, especially when it's fermented. When it's fermented it can actually be a great addition to a vegan and NON vegan diet. That's right, tempeh is NOT just for vegetarians. Just like in Japan, tofu is also apart of their healthy raw fish diet.

    I've been perfecting this recipe for years and it's one in particular that has sparked a lot of interest from friends and family. They absoultely love it. Even those that think they won't like it.

    Here is why I like it:

    • You can eat it plain in bite size portions as a snack.
    • Kids LOVE it {great addition to the lunch box}.
    • It's super easy to make and has only a few ingredients.
    • You can eat it with rice or with meat or with veggies.
    • It can be a meat-substitute for taco night.
    • A great Meatless Monday idea {eh um}.
    • You can add a bit of ginger and honey to give it a teriyaki kick.
    • Tastes amazing with avocado.
    • A great source of fats, carbs and protein.

     I Encourage You To Get Creative.

    Juli's Tempeh Recipe

    1 8oz package of tempeh
    1.5 Tbls coconut oil {or olive oil, but be sure to turn heat down}
    3 cloves garlic
    4 Tbls soy sauce or nama shoyu or tamari
    1 Tbls {vegan} worchestire sauce {optional - use an extra tablespoon of soy sauce if you omit this}

    Heat coconut oil in skiillet on medium heat. Add garlic. Meanwhile, chop tempeh into thin strips and then half them. Or you can do strips if you would like. But don't cut them too thick.

    Add tempeh to the skillet. Mix with oil. Let them cook for a few minutes on one side, then toss again. After another minute or so, add soy sauce and worchestire. The trick to this recipe is to let the tempeh sit on one side and get brown before flipping. Don't toss them over and over. Let them cook until they get brown. Then toss and MAYBE add a bit more soy sauce if it dries up. Try and get both sides pretty brown.

    tip: if it doesn't seem to be getting brown, turn the heat up a bit.

    This recipe is a tad salty. But, that's why it's so good. 😉

      Love your website! Do you use a specific type of tempeh? I am always perplexed by the variety of flavors...

      alyssa of semilla snacks turned me on to your website, and i came across this recipe today, and happened to have just bought tempeh on a whim yesterday. didn't have worchester, but i added in a tiny bit of grated ginger, extra garlic, a tablespoon of agave, broccoli, and shitake mushrooms. and my girls (19 months and 3 days shy of 4) absolutely devoured it. 🙂 thanks for the great idea. 🙂

      Hi! This looks like a great way to try tempeh! Quick question: Do I do anything to the garlic cloves or just throw them in whole? Thank you! 🙂

        Oh haha, yes, please chop or press the garlic into the pan. I usually press them with a garlic press. Do you have one? Sorry for confusion. Hope you like it. 😉

Passion fruit water is yet another youth serum. As passion fruit is full of vitamin C, vitamin A, fiber, and minerals like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and folate. These help your kidneys, nerves, muscles, and heart rhythm in big ways.
Your body uses Vitamins C to make blood vessels, cartilage, muscles, and collagen, which keeps skin looking young. It also helps your body heal, lowers inflammation, and protects your cells from damage. When you get enough vitamin C, it lowers your chances of getting colds and certain types of cancers. Vit A is great for eyes, immunity, and cells.
Note: did you know Passion Fruit is actually a berry? The biggest berry you’ll find.

    If you’re not ready for change, you’re not rea
    If you’re not ready for change, you’re not ready for change. And that’s perfectly ok.
Making healthy choices isn’t hard work. You “have time” to choose an apple over a bag of chips. Let’s be real here; you just DON’T WANT TO. And that alone is totally ok!!
Let’s not shame others choices or pressure another to change. If somebody is not happy where they’re at, or they are sick, or in pain, only then will they start examining their current routines and habits. Anger is a great catalysts for change. It often pushes people out if their comfort zones and into action.
I often hear “I don’t have time to be healthy”. But what that really means is I don’t want to change or I’m afraid of change. And I’m not ready. Change is what they’re nervous about - not the amount of time it takes to chop up vegetables.
Be kind to yourself…but be honest.
Notice what you say you desire (weightloss or more energy) and then really examine your habits. Do you make the choices a “thin” person makes? Do you make the choices a rested high energy person needs to make? This might seem obvious but it’s actually not…so often we overlook this gap. We don’t see it and then we get mad at ourselves. Punish ourselves for “failing” over and over again.
Once you start paying attention to your actions and habits and line them up with your goals - that’s when the magic happens.
Yay or nay?
