My boys go to a little school house up the street and they just LOVE it. Everytime I go in to pick them up, my oldest son is playing quietly at the table with the glitter sparkle play dough. I finally had to ask them about it because it definitely didn't look like PlayDoh brand.
They photocopied their wonderful -- super soft not-so-stinky and toxic -- recipe.
We had a super busy day today. I was solo with my boys from 8a to 8pm this cold Saturday and we made the best of it. Before a 6 year olds birthday party at a beautiful park, we went to my mom's house for a play dough making morning.
The dough was really easy to make and was usable just 5 minutes after it was all mixed and kneeded. We used all of my mom's kitchen utensils to create elephants, crazy hair, weird ears and much more.
NOTE: Instead of adding food dyes, which can be toxic, we used a pomegranate juice {from half of a real pomegranate} for color. And you can add glitter, too.

My mom used to make play dough like that when I was growing up. Now I do the same thing with my kids. So cool 🙂

If you boil your water first, you can skip the cooking step! Adding the oil and the salt to the water before the flour yields pretty neat discussions too.

Hi there! I use to make playdoh as a kid and we used store bought dyes. I don't recall the playdoh ever going bad but it would eventually dry and need replacing. Do you find that using the vegetable juice has any impact on shelf life? Does it go rancid or mold if not stored properly?

yes. you do need to take that into consideration. i am doing an updated playdough post coming very soon and i do recommend some healthIER food dyes that you can buy, as opposed to using fresh food. using regular dyes aren't that bad either, as long as kids aren't eating it. we didn't save this playdough for too long. i should have tested the shelf life, that would have been fun. will do that next time!!! thanks sarah.
