    Homemade Healthy "Slurpees"

Slurpees were a favorite pass time when I was a little girl. Summertime, movies and slurpees. Then in college, I may or may not have added vodka! (gross)

Anyways, they really are just sugar, ice and unhealthy dyes. There is not ONE vitamin, mineral, enzyme, or ounce of hydration. Talk about negative calories.

So, at home, we came up with the best natural version for your whole family to enjoy. Everyone from the picky kid to the parent with gourmet taste buds will approve. Fruit, ice and sweetener of choice!

Please note that the amount of sweetener is up to your family and your taste buds. It totally depends. If you like the fruit flavors, use less. If you like the traditional SLURPEE flavors use MORE.

Also, please note, you can also use XYLITOL or RAW HONEY or AGAVE NECTAR.

Go ahead, try it at home. And give me some feedback.

    BANANA SLURPEE RECIPE

    • 2 frozen bananas

    • 10 ice cubes

    • ΒΌ c water

    • 3 Tbls - ΒΌc agave nectar - depends on your sweetness needs and ripeness of fruit

    • Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth like a slurpee.

    • Top with cacao powder, nutmeg powder & cacao nibs or NOTHING. My kids like it with nothing, of course.

    PINEAPPLE SLURPEE RECIPE

    • 2 c fresh pineapple

    • 10 ice cubes

    • 4 Tbls agave nectar - might want to add more, depends on your sweetness needs and ripeness of fruit

    • Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth like a slurpee.

    • note: add some fresh coconut for a pina colada taste. And even some rum, if you are feeling spicy.

    WATERMELON MINT SLURPEE RECIPE

    • ΒΌ large watermelon

    • 8 cubes of ice

    • 3 Tbls agave nectar

    • 5 sprigs mint {this in not optional - it's amazing}

    • Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth like a slurpee.

    • note: top with mint sprigs.

    ALMOND VANILLA SLURPEE RECIPE

    • ΒΌc almonds and/or brazil nuts

    • 5 Tbls agave nectar

    • 1 vanilla bean

    • 1 teaspoon almond extract

    • 8 cubes of ice

Combine all ingredients EXCEPT ICE in a blender until smooth. Strain out the nuts using a nut milk bag or a fine mesh strainer saving the milk in a bowl. Then use the milk portion, NOT THE NUT PULP, and combine again in blender with ice. Add more agave if need be.

    ORANGE LIME ZEST SLURPEE RECIPE

    • 2 oranges, peeled

    • 1 lime, juiced & then skin zested

    • 8 ice cubes or more

    • 4 Tbls agave nectar or more

Combine all ingredients, excpet lime zest, in a blender until smooth like a slurpee. Add most of zest and blend again, on low until combined.

note: use the rest of the lime zest to spinkle on top. The zest is optional but adds a little biterness for the adults. Kids probably won't like it.

Lauren - so funny you say that. That's the ONLY flavor I left out. I didn't have time to photograph it. Ha. I LOVE that one, too. My fav flavor for sure.

So I'm unclear about the Almond Vanilla Slurpee. I tried to make it but there wasn't enough liquid to strain....where is the liquid coming from in your recipe? Instead I added unsweetened almond milk, dates, and ice cubes. It turned out pretty good πŸ™‚

Passion fruit water is yet another youth serum. As passion fruit is full of vitamin C, vitamin A, fiber, and minerals like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and folate. These help your kidneys, nerves, muscles, and heart rhythm in big ways.
Your body uses Vitamins C to make blood vessels, cartilage, muscles, and collagen, which keeps skin looking young. It also helps your body heal, lowers inflammation, and protects your cells from damage. When you get enough vitamin C, it lowers your chances of getting colds and certain types of cancers. Vit A is great for eyes, immunity, and cells.
Note: did you know Passion Fruit is actually a berry? The biggest berry you’ll find.

If you’re not ready for change, you’re not rea
If you’re not ready for change, you’re not ready for change. And that’s perfectly ok.
Making healthy choices isn’t hard work. You β€œhave time” to choose an apple over a bag of chips. Let’s be real here; you just DON’T WANT TO. And that alone is totally ok!!
Let’s not shame others choices or pressure another to change. If somebody is not happy where they’re at, or they are sick, or in pain, only then will they start examining their current routines and habits. Anger is a great catalysts for change. It often pushes people out if their comfort zones and into action.
I often hear β€œI don’t have time to be healthy”. But what that really means is I don’t want to change or I’m afraid of change. And I’m not ready. Change is what they’re nervous about - not the amount of time it takes to chop up vegetables.
Be kind to yourself…but be honest.
Notice what you say you desire (weightloss or more energy) and then really examine your habits. Do you make the choices a β€œthin” person makes? Do you make the choices a rested high energy person needs to make? This might seem obvious but it’s actually not…so often we overlook this gap. We don’t see it and then we get mad at ourselves. Punish ourselves for β€œfailing” over and over again.
Once you start paying attention to your actions and habits and line them up with your goals - that’s when the magic happens.
Yay or nay?
