    Smoothie versus Juice? The Controversy

Some of the most common questions we get from readers is Buy a Juicer? Or buy a Vitamix? Which is better, smoothies or juicing? And today Meredith Baird and I are here to bust the myths and explain the difference between smoothies versus juice.

Meredith Baird is here sharing her current favorite smoothie recipe, Beyond Beautiful Berry Protein Smoothie, as well as to help clear up the smoothies versus juice debate:

"First off, they are completely different", Meredith says.

    Juice is a supplement.

The nutrients absorb easily because there is no fiber to slow them down. Because they absorb so quickly I prefer (and recommend) juices that are very low in fruit and sugar. Generally, juices aren't that filling.

    Smoothies are a meal.

They are full of antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber.  Smoothies are a great way to combine fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, and proteins for a complete nutrient-dense experience. There is no right way to make a smoothie. Throw ingredients in that make you happy! This is my most frequent (and favorite) combination. You can't go wrong with the combination of berries and spinach- so nutritious!

Plus, Summer is on its way- and so are amazing smoothies! I don't know about you, but winter makes it really hard for me to get into smoothie mode. It might be because I live in Maine and frozen fruit seems counterintuitive in the winter (as it should!), or perhaps it is nice just to change it up a bit- either way, smoothies are an amazing way to really pack in the nutrition.

Here is my concoction, try it, and then experiment with your own.

Beyond Beautiful Berry Protein Smoothie Recipe

    Serves 2 Large Smoothies

    INGREDIENTS

2-3 Cups Frozen (or fresh) Berries - I always make sure that some blueberries make there way in!
1 Young Coconut- Meat and Water
1 Cup Brazil Nut Milk (or Nut Milk of your choice)
    2 Cups Spinach

    SUPPLEMENTS

    • Beaming Protein Powder - This is a proprietary blend of vegan protein made by or friends and colleagues at the Be Beaming cleanse squad in San Diego. I am LOVING it.
    • 1 Scoop Green Vibrance
    • 1 tablespoon Coconut Butter
    • Bee Pollen- *I like Bee Pollen on mine

*If you like it sweeter, add a date or a few drops of stevia.

    DIRECTIONS

Throw all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth! (It helps if you put the spinach and liquid in first!)

    Sip, Relax and Enjoy!

Looks delicious! I wish organic young coconuts were easier to find or I had a tree in my yard to sustain my love for them!

Butternutrition- you can totally make without the coconut meat if you want - just sub more nut milk for the coconut water- and add an extra scoop of coconut butter for the nutritional benefit!

Thanks for the tips on subbing for when coconut meat is not readily available. Much appreciated.

Your berry green protein smoothie sounds so delicious! Love the inclusion of fresh brazil nut milk and coconut meat. I'm going to try it out with some Epic Protein, i think the Lucuma Vanilla flavor would work really well with the other flavors. Thanks!

What a fun collaboration with @veggiesdontbite a few weeks ago. We teamed up (in person) to create a bloody Maria recipe. It’s truly our own unique fun take on the traditional Bloody Mary. I’m not a huge fan of hard alcohol but I can do some tequila. And one cool thing about this recipe is you don’t need any alcohol. It’s THAT GOOD! And you really won’t miss it. Thanks for a fun day @veggiesdontbite link in my bio for full recipe on the blog right now.

My oldest son lived off my homemade baby formula. It’s fresh and easy to make. This homemade baby formula recipe has literally saved so many babies lives. Please share it with anybody you know suffering from the baby formula shortage crisis. Or DM for more info. I’m not here to debate breastfeeding, cows milk, formula, none of that matters right now these babies need to eat and this recipe can help so many! Please share. But consult pediatrician before using.
Recipe:
6 oz Goats Milk
2 oz Carrot Juice
2 oz Water
a few drops Flax Oil (EFAs) with DHA

A healthy diet is so key to many aspects of our lives. Diet plays a huge role in disease gene deregulation, it requires less time at the gym with a trainer (more energy, less extra weight, & better recovery), diet helps with brain fog making us feel more clear headed, stronger teeth and better smelling breath is a great side effect, your skin care routine will thank you as well (more hydrated, less blemishes)!
Because you feel so energetic, clear headed and strong, you end up with more confidence, self love and therefor self respect. This snowballs into less self sabotage and more self control!
There are so many reasons why putting the time and energy into cleaning up your diet PAYS OFF!

I want to introduce you to a term I coined this ye
I want to introduce you to a term I coined this year. I was trying so hard for so long to describe a way of cooking that is from the soul, tapping into a skill we all have deep down but often don’t recognize or trust in: Intuitive Cooking. Not intuitive eating, but intuitive cooking! It's a type of cooking that comes from within! Not looking outside yourself but looking within; knowing and trusting yourself. Using flavors, ingredients, fruits/vegetables, and spices you love, and then applying all the cooking knowledge you have from your years of eating breakfast lunch, and dinner. Having fun in the kitchen. Seeing cooking as an art.
So often we give our power away to recipes or people called experts. You know - those chefs or bloggers that seem “better at cooking” than you are.
So often we assume others must know more than we do. And this diminishes our own trust in our abilities. But I’m gonna tell you a secret: you are a creator in the kitchen with artistic abilities you have yet to discover or acknowledge. Trust yourself; and you’ve taken your first step towards better health and taking your power back.
This right here is what I call the fridge dump dinner. I took whatever I had leftover in the fridge and made a nutritious meal from it. Read more on my blog: link to blog article in my bio.
