    Happy 2016 + Let's Get Cooking

Tomorrow is a big day for the entire world - it's the start of a new year and that means, we all put on our thinking caps, or clean out our pantries, in hopes for a fresh start at hitting goals and becoming a better you.

This year I too have been reflecting on yet another year gone and dreaming all the things I want to do in this new year.

So I have decided that I need your help. And this time around, I will simultaneously help you as well. We can work together to be healthier.

    guiltypleasure2016.jpg

Please submit - via the comments below or on the Facebook page - your favorite unhealthy recipes or guilty pleasures that you just can't give up.

I will help you get rid of whatever it is that is standing in your way. What are you having trouble giving up? What's getting the way of your goals? Using only healthy plant-based ingredients, I want to turn your unhealthy recipe into a healthy one.

I will select as many of them as I can to transform...so hurry up, I'm ready!

Also, if you have any health food goals, reach out to me as well. Thanks...and let's do this 2016! It's time to clean that pantry and those recipes.

    Happiest New Year Everybody!

    xoxo,

    Juli

Pizza!!! I know there are great, healthy options but sometimes it's just so convenient, quick and it just has a certain flavor mix that is hard to replicate...

I would like to hear more about healthy school lunches to pack for kids. I wonder what you give to your own kiddos if they have stomach problems. What is a healthy replacement for the plain bread, crackers and white rice diet?

Exactly, I swear white bread and cheese is a kid's go-to favorite meal. My kids eat a really good dinner pretty much every day of the week. Everything from vegan lasagna, to tempeh tacos, to sweet potato stew, to beans and rice, etc. Lunches are basically just healthy snacks and fruit. I spend a lot of money on healthy snacks because it's easy to pack and guaranteed to get eaten. If I pack healthy foods like left overs or veggies they just get left in the sack or put in the trash. I have done two different healthy school lunch articles. One for the Honest company https://blog.honest.com/healthy-back-to-school-lunches/ and one for BasilHealth. http://basilhealth.com/articles/kids-corner/healthy-lunchbox-snack-ideas

Let me know if you have any other questions. xoxo, Juli

Thanks, Julie! Those are some good tips. I am amazed at some of the snacks you were able to find. You are so right. Kids just really love packaged snacks and my daughter is getting such ideas mostly from other kids at school. I usually pack a boiled egg, cheese, bread with nut butter, veggies/fruit, but nothing sweet or packaged. She likes this food, but has been asking me for packaged snacks like her peers eat. I feel ok giving her those snacks sometimes and balance it with a green smoothie/juice at home. I think that's the right thing to do, but they are expensive and wasteful in my mind (all the packaging). I was curious if your boys get those snacks too or if it's all homemade. What do you give them to eat if they have stomach issues like on the New Year's Eve when you guys went out and came home and they threw up? What about unplanned birthday cupcakes at school or birthday parties with all the junk food? Oh, I have so many questions and wonder how you handle it. Thanks for your response!!! Markéta

Hi Juli, I know you wrote this post a few months ago now (wow, a quarter of the year has already gone by...when did that happen?!?!)... but I would love it if you could give a few dinner ideas that are easy & quick to prepare and that your kids enjoy also. BTW...I have tried your Mac and cheese (using leftovers for the kale chips)...always a big hit - thank you so much for that one 😀 Can't wait to see what else you have in store for us!

Yes, I will do a post on this actually. I'd love to share some quick and easy meals. I actually have gotten really good at quick meals, quicker than Kraft Mac and Cheese, but way healthier 😉 So stay tuned and thanks for the comment, I really appreciate feedback!!!!

Passion fruit water is yet another youth serum. As passion fruit is full of vitamin C, vitamin A, fiber, and minerals like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and folate. These help your kidneys, nerves, muscles, and heart rhythm in big ways.
Your body uses Vitamins C to make blood vessels, cartilage, muscles, and collagen, which keeps skin looking young. It also helps your body heal, lowers inflammation, and protects your cells from damage. When you get enough vitamin C, it lowers your chances of getting colds and certain types of cancers. Vit A is great for eyes, immunity, and cells.
Note: did you know Passion Fruit is actually a berry? The biggest berry you’ll find.

If you’re not ready for change, you’re not rea
If you’re not ready for change, you’re not ready for change. And that’s perfectly ok.
Making healthy choices isn’t hard work. You “have time” to choose an apple over a bag of chips. Let’s be real here; you just DON’T WANT TO. And that alone is totally ok!!
Let’s not shame others choices or pressure another to change. If somebody is not happy where they’re at, or they are sick, or in pain, only then will they start examining their current routines and habits. Anger is a great catalysts for change. It often pushes people out if their comfort zones and into action.
I often hear “I don’t have time to be healthy”. But what that really means is I don’t want to change or I’m afraid of change. And I’m not ready. Change is what they’re nervous about - not the amount of time it takes to chop up vegetables.
Be kind to yourself…but be honest.
Notice what you say you desire (weightloss or more energy) and then really examine your habits. Do you make the choices a “thin” person makes? Do you make the choices a rested high energy person needs to make? This might seem obvious but it’s actually not…so often we overlook this gap. We don’t see it and then we get mad at ourselves. Punish ourselves for “failing” over and over again.
Once you start paying attention to your actions and habits and line them up with your goals - that’s when the magic happens.
Yay or nay?
